Zvi Mowshowitz: Omicron Variant Post #7. I am grateful to all my news sources and those who help gather the information together, and everyone working tirelessly in the lab, but the whole thing is still a slapstick hodgepodge, and we know so much less than we could know so much slower than we could know it. The Omicron variant is a variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. It was first reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) from South Africa on 24 November 2021.[1] On 26 November 2021, the WHO designated it as a variant of concern and named it "Omicron", the fifteenth letter in the Greek alphabet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SARS-CoV-2_Omicron_variant (more)
Kaj van de Loo: 5 reasons to combine the CTO and CPO roles. When LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner announced in early February that he would step down on June 1, it was a noteworthy change at the professional networking platform that he had led for more than a decade. What also caught my eye, however, was the choice of his successor: LinkedIn product head Ryan Rolansky. They say it takes three or four to make a trend, so I’m calling one now on product leaders getting promoted to CEO. Other examples at high-profile companies in recent years include Adam Mosseri at Instagram, Sundar Pichai at Google, and Thomas Kurian at Google Cloud. (more)

Went went to see IJK at the New Victory Theater yesterday. Each play in this series is inspired by a simple geometric concept. More or Less Infinity is about one-dimetional lines, Plan B (which was presented at the New Victory in 2004) examines a two-dimentional plane, and IJK focuses on the three-dimensional cube. With a distinctive, artistic aesthetic, the company develops an exquisite and unusual performance out of a basic mathematical idea. Loads of fun. It made me realize that Hacker-s without kids don't find out about this kinda cool stuff. I strongly recommend you look around in your city for kids shows that involve acrobatics, gymnastics, juggling, etc. It's a good brain-tickle, and usually reasonably priced.

The style features compositions characterized by a fast tempo, complex chord progressions with rapid chord changes and numerous changes of key, instrumental virtuosity, and improvisation based on a combination of harmonic structure, the use of scales and occasional references to the melody. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bebop (more)

Theory of Change (ToC) is a methodology for planning, participation, and evaluation that is used in companies, philanthropy, not-for-profit and government sectors to promote social change. Theory of Change defines long-term goals and then maps backward to identify necessary preconditions. (Working Backwards, ChangeTheWorld) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_change I don't like this phrase much, as it feels like it's about a generic theory of change-agentry, as opposed to a context-specific theory of steps to take to reach a specific outcome.
